Red Swirl Apple Glass Paperweight
by WheatonArts Glass Studio Artists
Fruity and Fun!
An apple shaped paperweight with bright red swirled glass encased in clear glass, made at WheatonArts. Molten glass is rolled in vibrant chips of color, then handformed into a beautiful apple shape complete with a stem and leaf. The stem and leaf are hand applied in an addtional step during the creation process. The completed molten glass is pressed at its base with a WheatonArts stamp for the final touch. Although similar in size and color, each apple will be distinctly different, due to the unique process of creation. Apples measure approx. 3″ -3.5″ in diameter and 3.5″-4.5″ in height. Each is gift boxed with a WheatonArts enclosure.
Each glass paperweight is made by highly skilled artists working in the re-created 1888 T.C. Wheaton Glass Studio at WheatonArts.
Because each piece is handmade, the color and size may vary and bubbles may appear in the glass. This is not a flaw, but your assurance that each piece is handmade.
Each comes in a gift box with a story card and information on WheatonArts.
Paperweights have been made in this country since about 1850 and currently enjoy popularity for both practical and decorative purposes. In the South Jersey factories, paperweights were made by the glassworkers as a “whimsey” or “end-of-day” piece, not as a factory production item. They were given to friends and family as mementos.
