Beginner Glassblowing Weekend Intensive
September 15 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm EDT
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until September 15, 2024
In this two-day glassblowing intensive, students will begin with the basics and learn to safely work in a hot shop with molten glass. An experienced instructor will guide students as they learn to gather from the furnace, use hand tools, and create solid and blown forms in clear glass. Day one will be packed with demonstrations, active learning, and hands-on instruction. Students will practice by making marbles and “caterpillars” and will create a clear paperweight with a funky bubble design. By the end of the first day, students will learn to inflate glass, making a blown air plant terrarium. Day two will focus more on blown forms. With guidance, students will create a salt cellar or candy bowl, and a small clear bud vase. By the end of the weekend, students will have a solid base to build upon hot glass skills.
Students must wear closed-toe shoes and be ready for active participation, safety glasses will be provided by the studio, and all students are expected to stay for the duration of both class days. Those who have participated in a Make-Your-Own experience are encouraged to sign up, but no experience is required!
