Description

“Mini Swirl in Green” by the WheatonArts Glass Studio.

WheatonArts staff artists handcraft this one-of-a-kind, swirl paperweight in our Glass Studio here in Millville, NJ. Then, they mark the bottom with our signature stamp. And, each gift box includes a Story Card. They each measure approximately 2.25-inches in diameter.

PLEASE NOTE: Because each piece is handmade, the color and size may vary and bubbles may appear in the glass. This is not a flaw, but your assurance that each piece is handmade.

Since about 1850 in this country, glassworkers have been creating glass paperweights. In Southern Jersey factories, paperweights were made by as a “whimsey” or “end-of-day” piece. Friends and family received these as treasures.

A clear crystal dome magnifies air bubbles or colored elements such as flowers and spirals. These are typical of early South Jersey weights. Handcast animal figurines became popular novelties in the early 20th century.

At WheatonArts, our resident artists continue the southern New Jersey tradition of paperweight making with both classic and modern designs.
