SUMMARY:Introduction to Pysanky
DESCRIPTION:Explore the art\, symbolism\, and joy in creating pysanky\,  a springtime Ukrainian tradition of decorating real eggshells. Students will learn the age-old method of applying hot beeswax to an emptied eggshell using a stylus\, over a succession of dye baths. When the pattern is completed\, the wax is removed over a candle flame\, revealing the colors and pattern. This pysanka\, or Ukrainian Easter egg\, can then be displayed on a stand or hung as an ornament. Materials\, supplies\, and instruction will be provided to complete one or two eggs. DESCRIPTION:We all have to start somewhere! This course will introduce students to beginning glassblowing techniques and proper studio safety practices. Students will learn to gather glass\, learn about the proper usage of glassblowing tools\, how to create basic shapes and glass-blown forms\, and how to work in a team setting. Class time will be divided between demonstrations and supervised work time. This course is designed for students with no experience or very minimal knowledge of glassblowing skills. SUMMARY:Beginner Glass Blowing Intensive Weekend
DESCRIPTION:In this two-day glass blowing intensive\, students will begin with the basics and learn to safely work in a hot shop with molten glass. An experienced instructor will guide students as they learn to gather from the furnace\, use hand tools\, and create solid and blown forms in clear glass. Day one will be packed with demonstrations\, active learning\, and hands-on instruction. Students will practice by making solid glass objects\, practicing the foundational skills to move into blown forms on the second day. By the end of the weekend\, students will have a solid base to build upon hot glass skills.  \nStudents must wear closed-toe shoes and be ready for active participation\, safety glasses will be provided by the studio\, and all students are expected to stay for the duration of both class days.
