SUMMARY:Glass Blowing: American-Style Venetian Techniques
DESCRIPTION:The Czechs\, Swedes\, and Germans\, among others\, all have venerable glass-making traditions. But for artist Jason McDonald the workshops of the Venetian lagoon\, particularly in the 16th century\, produced some of the finest glass the world has ever known. Join Jason McDonald as he introduces the basics of this working style as understood from an American studio perspective. \nThis two-day workshop will cover the first steps in blowing thin-footed vessels. As challenging to produce as they are beautiful to look at\, the motto of this class will be “fail quickly.” Don’t plan to bring more home from this “crash course” than good working habits that you can apply to your practice\, and leave room to surprise yourself! \nSaturday & Sunday Instruction: June 3 &  4 \nTime: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. \nLocation: Glass Studio \nAges: 16 & above \nClass Limit: 4 to 10 people \nClass Fee: $450 \nInstructor: Jason McDonald \nPrerequisite: Advanced-Beginner Glassblowing \nRegistration Closing: May 20 \nAll registrants for Glassblowing workshops must be fully vaccinated* against COVID-19 to participate. \n  \n\nSeats are limited and booked on a first-come\, first-reserve basis. Besides an auto-generated email receipt\, you will receive a confirmation email from the Director of Education and Artist Services\, Pamela Weichmann. If you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to contact us at 856.825.6800 ext. 112 or by emailing pweichmann@wheatonarts.org. \nCANCELATION POLICY: Refunds are eligible up to one week before the beginning of the workshop. After this time\, workshop fees are non-refundable. WheatonArts reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to minimum enrollment. If cancellation occurs\, WheatonArts will refund all workshop fees. A $25 fee is charged to those who do not show up for their appointment. We require 24 hours’ notice to cancel an appointment; otherwise\, it will be considered a no-show\, except in the case of illness. Are you feeling unwell or showing symptoms of COVID-19? Please stay home. Appointments can be rescheduled by phone or email. \nCOVID NOTE: Due to the close physical proximity of students and instructors\, students in hot glass and pottery classes will need to show proof of vaccination. Following New Jersey State’s definition\, people are considered “fully vaccinated” for COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after receiving a single-dose vaccine\, and any booster doses for which they are eligible as recommended by the CDC. Instructors and students are also strongly encouraged to wear masks; however\, it is not required.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Conceptual Painting
DESCRIPTION:Painting is a beautiful way to express our perception of the world around us. This class will focus on learning the techniques of capturing the representational world in order to morph them and have others see their vision by working with the familiar to the unfamiliar\, then combining the two. There will be two projects that encourage exploration of the different paint mediums- acrylic\, gouache\, and watercolor. One project will be due the second week of the session\, and the other on the fourth. Students will not only learn how to handle each medium and learn different techniques\, but also the process before painting\, how to take care of their painting tools\, how to constructively help their fellow classmates\, and discover more about themselves. \n*All materials are included in the class fee. \nSaturday Instruction: June 3\, 10\, 17 & 24 \nClass Duration: 4 Sessions\, 16 hours total \nTime:  11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. \nLocation: Classroom in Pottery/Flameworking Studio \nAges: 13 to 17 \nClass Limit: 5 to 10 \nClass Fee: $200* \nInstructor: Sumayyah Hayes \nPrerequisite: None \nRegistration Closing: May 20 \n  \n\nSeats are limited and booked on a first-come\, first-reserve basis.
